2. Giant Wild Goose Pagoda

The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is located in the Great Cien Temple in the south of the city. Daci'en Temple is a magnificent royal temple in Chang'an City of the Tang Dynasty. It was built by Prince Li Zhi in memory of his mother, Empress Wende, during the Emperor Taizong of Tang's reign. Master Xuanzang, who returned from his journey to the west to collect scriptures, served as the "first host". During this period, the mage supervised the construction of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda.

Master Xuanzang translated Buddhist scriptures and promoted Buddhism for 11 years in the Daci'en Temple, and founded the "Xiang Wei Zhi Zong" of Buddhism, making the Daci'en Temple the ancestor of the Wei Zhi Zong (also known as the "East Asian Yogācāra"). During this period, the mage personally supervised the construction of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda in order to worship the scripture statues and Buddhist relics brought back from India.

Today's Daci'en Temple was built in the Ming Dynasty on the basis of the original temple "West Pagoda", while the existing halls are mostly Qing Dynasty buildings. The main buildings on the central axis of the temple are the Shakya ManiHall, Dharma Hall, Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, and Xuanzang Sanzang Temple. Among them, the Buddhist relics and the parietal bones of Master Xuanzang enshrined in the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda and Xuanzang Sanzang Temple are the "treasure of the temple" of Daci'en Temple.

To the east of the central axis of the temple is the Pagoda Garden, with a forest of pagodas. There are a total of nine pagodas dedicated to the relics of nine prominent monks in the temple since the Qing Dynasty
