The health and wellness industry in Hainan is entering the fast lane of high-quality development. The reporter learned from the Hainan Provincial Health Commission that by making good use of resource endowments and strengthening support measures, the province's health and wellness industry has recently achieved significant results in top-level design, medical empowerment, standard construction, support policies, investment attraction, and other aspects.

Hainan, as a tropical island, has excellent ecology, suitable climate, and unique conditions for the development of the health and wellness industry. In February 2025, the General Office of the Provincial Government issued the "Three Year Action Plan for Promoting the Development of the Health and Wellness Industry in Hainan Province (2025-2027)", which clearly proposes to focus on the concept of "one game for the whole province" and guide the formation of a differentiated development pattern of medical and wellness in the east, traditional Chinese medicine and wellness in the south, climate and forest wellness in the central region, community wellness in the north, and ecological wellness in the west. At the same time, Hainan Province has also established a provincial-level health and wellness industry working group to accelerate the coordination and implementation of relevant measures.

With the efforts of all parties, the health and wellness industry in Hainan continues to grow. In 2025, a total of 98 health and wellness projects with certain scale and representativeness will be held by social capital in the province, with a total reception of 5.4575 million people and a total bed capacity of 13600.

With the help of the Hainan trip of international life and health enterprises, Hainan has signed 26 key projects in the life and health industry, with a signing amount exceeding 38 billion yuan. The 8th Health Expo attracted more than 250 directly participating companies, with a total transaction amount of 18.58 million yuan and an intended cooperation amount of over 600 million yuan.

According to the "Report on the Development of China's Health and Wellness Industry (2024-2025)", four cities and counties including Qionghai, Lingshui, Wuzhishan, and Baoting have successfully been selected as one of the top 100 counties (cities, districts) in the national health and wellness industry.

Hainan is based on the brand construction of "Traditional Chinese Medicine Fragrant Island, Healthy Hainan", and has developed a comprehensive service supervision platform for "Trusted Traditional Chinese Medicine in Hainan". Focusing on agarwood life, Tonic Diet, medicine and drink, create application scenarios, give full play to the characteristics of Li and Miao medicine, and develop TCM health care packages around the treatment of winter diseases in summer, sleep disorder intervention, respiratory disease management, etc.

At the same time, the Provincial Health Commission has conducted special research and deployed public hospitals to carry out health and wellness services, strengthening cooperation between public hospitals and health and wellness enterprises through medical extension points, technical cooperation, and discipline co construction. Establish an expert group for specialized care service packages, review and release 15 service packages, and promote their use in healthcare institutions.

In terms of international medical services, Hainan has promoted a tertiary hospital to pass the "Chinese version" international hospital certification, standardizing the construction of 36 international outpatient clinics. In May of this year, the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone established the International Medical Tourism Service Center, marking the beginning of Lecheng's construction of a full chain service system covering consultation, referral, health care, and cultural tourism.

In addition, the Provincial Health Commission has also partnered with the Provincial Department of Tourism and Culture to create the first "Rainforest+Healing" traditional Chinese medicine health tourism route. At present, the province has launched more than 30 health and wellness silver hair tourism routes, including "Boao Lecheng · Fushou Ankang".

From wintering as migratory birds to year-round health and wellness, from natural endowments to medical empowerment, Hainan is promoting the high-quality development of the health and wellness industry with the strength of a "province wide strategy". Next, the Provincial Health Commission will follow the decision-making and deployment of the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government to create a work pattern of "provincial departments working together, cities and counties taking the initiative, and parks taking the lead in characteristics". By 2026, the focus will be on establishing a statistical monitoring system, launching a comprehensive service platform, promoting the construction of a standard system for the health and wellness industry, improving high-level coordination and scheduling, and the "1+N" linkage mechanism, striving to introduce and cultivate 3 to 5 benchmark projects, with a total reception of over 6 million people in operating projects.
